Emily is a Neurology Resident Physician participating in the Department of Neurology’s Research Track with a plan to go into Neuromuscular Medicine. She completed her BS in Chemistry at John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH, after which she pursued her MD and PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. For her PhD research, she worked with Professor Jonathan Sweedler studying neuropeptide release from primary sensory neurons to further understand pain and itch signaling.  Her current research and clinical goals are to better understand the signaling molecules involved in perpetuating neuronal dysfunction leading to peripheral neuropathies, with a goal of finding better therapeutic targets for preventing damage and restoring function for her patients. When she’s not in the hospital, Emily enjoys running, gardening and being a fun Auntie to her niece and nephews.
